Responsible gambling: your bank limit is a tool too

Paying by Interac gives you one control that card and crypto players do not have: your bank's e-Transfer send limit. Used on purpose, it is a spending cap the casino cannot raise.

Gambling should be entertainment you pay for, like a concert ticket. These tools help keep it that way.

Limits you can set

At your bank. Lower your daily Interac e-Transfer send limit to what you are willing to spend in a day. A deposit above it stops in your bank app.

At the casino. Most casinos offer deposit, loss, wager and session limits. Hellspin sets them through 24/7 live support; Slotsgem's account settings include deposit, loss, wager, single-bet, session and balance limits, plus time-outs. Limit increases usually take effect only after a waiting period; decreases apply at once.

Self-exclusion. Every casino on our list offers it, through account settings or support. Ask for the period you need and ask whether it covers sister brands; the Terdersoft casinos and the Latcas casinos are each one group.

Warning signs

  • You deposit again to win back losses.
  • You raise your bank's send limit to keep playing.
  • You play with money meant for bills.
  • You hide your play from people close to you.
  • Gambling stops being fun and you keep going.

If any of these sound familiar, stop and talk to someone.

Help in Canada

Each province runs a free, confidential problem gambling helpline; ConnexOntario in Ontario and Jeu : aide et référence in Quebec are two of them. Gamblers Anonymous holds meetings across Canada. Your bank can also block gambling transactions on cards on request.

Age

Online casinos require players to be of legal age: 19 in most provinces, 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec.
